SUMMER RUNNING PROGRAM
We are in our last official week of our Summer Running Program. We have had some great workouts, great bonding with all of our athletes, good food at times and will have a wonderful pool and breakfast party at the wonderful home of the Deweys (thank you so much for all you do for our athletes). Those athletes who have been working out all summer are now in very good shape entering our beginning of the season. We have a long way to go, but I predict that we will have a very successful year based on the athletes' work ethic, enthusiasm and dedication.
It is now time to step it up a notch, using the words of a famous TV chef. This week we will have our normal workouts each day at 7:00 AM at the normal locations each day.
WHAT'S UP THIS WEEK
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday we will have our normal summer schedule starting at 7:00 AM at the usual daily locations. I know that registration is this week so I have made arrangements for our athletes to go in to register sometime after we finish with our workouts (please do not skip out on our workouts using registration as an excuse). On Thursday we will be going to the beach in the morning as usual.
COMING UP REAL FAST
- Monday, 8/24/09, is the first official week of the season. We will be working out with the same schedule as the summer - Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Cedar Grove, Tuesday at Beckman and Thursday at the beach. These workouts are now mandatory because the season is now here. If you are going to be away on vacation with your family, please see me.
- Thursday, 8/27/09, we will be have our great pool party and pancake breakfast at the Dewey home above Cedar Grove Park. This will take place after the workout somewhere around 10:00 AM. We will workout at Cedar Grove that day. Look for the flyer with all the information.
- Thursday, 8/27/09, at 6:30 PM in the Gym at Beckman we will have our mandatory parent/athlete meeting. At this meeting I will hand out the general information packet which will tell you everything you need to know about our season. Please come prepared to order the Spirit Pack (bring checkbook).
- Tuesday, 9/1/09, is the first official day of school. Our practices will start at the beginning of 6th period (about 1:35 PM).
- Saturday, 9/5/09, we will have our mandatory Team Time Trials starting at 7:00 AM. We will run the 3-mile course in Hicks Canyon as in the past. This helps for the coaching staff to evaluate athletes' progress, determine Varsity levels and gives each athlete an opportunity to see where they are. I know it is Labor Day weekend - if you have any family plans please let me know ASAP.
- First official race is Saturday, 9/12/09, at the always fun Laguna Hills Invitational.

The critical factors in our success as a Cross Country team are hard work and a good attitude. All of the athletes are working real hard every day to get in better shape physically and mentally. Remember that this hard work will really pay off for you - I promise you that. Be tough and you will conquer the world!
Remember - Success comes at a steep price that requires a lot of hard work, but once it comes, boy does it feel good! Keep the good work going.
