Events

There are usually 16 different events in a regular track & field meet. In the track area there are: 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, 1600 meters, 3200 meters, 110 meter HH (boys)/100 meter HH (girls), 300 meter H, 4 x 100 meter relay and 4 x 400 meter relay. In the field events there are: high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, shot put and discus throw. In the Pacific Coast League this year, they will not have the pole vault. An individual athlete may compete in up to 4 events combined in any one meet. The coaches will place each athlete in events in every meet based first on the team needs, but we will also take into consideration the athlete’s preference. Remember that our goal is to meet the team needs first while giving each athlete the opportunity to personally develop and have fun. The coaches will never place an athlete in an event that we feel the athlete cannot do well in. We will, however, sometimes place an athlete in an event that the athlete may not want to compete in but it is for the team. The athletes need to listen to the coaches and have faith in their ability to do what is best for the team and the athlete.
